Introduction

Expected Parrot, Inc. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") operates an open research platform (the "Application") that enables users to design and conduct surveys, experiments, simulations, and other research workflows using large language models, automated research functionality, and human participants. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and your rights in connection with that information.

This Privacy Policy applies to your use of the Application, including all features, tools, and interfaces. It is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Use. Capitalized terms used but not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms of Use.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Username (chosen by you)
  • Payment and billing information, where you purchase credits or a subscription (collected and processed by our payment processors)

Research Content

When you use the Application to conduct research, we collect and store:

  • Survey content, questions, configurations, and related materials you create
  • Prompts, instructions, and inputs you submit through any part of the Application, including the Research Agent
  • Outputs generated in response to your inputs, including large language model responses, simulation results, and analysis outputs
  • Respondent data collected through surveys or other research workflows you conduct
  • Files and datasets you upload or generate through the Application
  • Research Agent conversation history

Usage and Technical Data

We collect technical and usage data in connection with your use of the Application, including:

  • Credit usage and transaction history
  • Feature usage patterns and workflow activity
  • Log data, including IP addresses, browser type, and timestamps
  • Error and exception data

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Application
  • Authenticate your account and secure access to your data
  • Process payments and manage credits and subscriptions
  • Execute research workflows, including large language model calls, simulations, and data processing, on your behalf
  • Generate, store, and return Outputs in response to your instructions
  • Support and respond to your requests
  • Communicate with you about your account, service updates, and changes to these policies
  • Monitor for and enforce compliance with our Terms of Use and applicable law
  • Comply with legal obligations

Response Caching

To improve performance and reduce redundant computation, the Application may cache Outputs generated in response to your prompts. If another user submits an identical prompt, the Application may return a cached response rather than generating a new one. Cached responses are associated with the prompt, not with your account or identity. You may request fresh responses rather than cached results where that option is available in the Application.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

Third-Party Service Providers

We share information with third-party providers who help us operate the Application, including large language model providers, cloud infrastructure and storage providers, payment processors, authentication providers, respondent panel providers, and communications tools. These providers process data on our behalf and are subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection obligations. Your prompts, inputs, Outputs, and related data may be transmitted to and processed by these providers in order to deliver the Application's functionality. Legal and Safety Disclosures

We may disclose your information where required by law, regulation, or legal process, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of the Company, our users, or others.

Business Transfers

In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice in accordance with applicable law.

Data Storage and Retention

Research Content

We store your research content, including prompts, Outputs, respondent data, and files, for as long as your account is active or as otherwise necessary to provide the Application. We reserve the right to retain this content as needed for service improvement, quality control, compliance, and legal purposes.

Account Information

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services to you.

Deletion

You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at info@expectedparrot.com. Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information consistent with our data retention practices and applicable law, except where retention is required by law or necessary to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. We are not responsible for any loss of content following deletion.

International Data Transfers

The Application is operated in the United States. If you access the Application from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our third-party providers operate. Data protection laws in those jurisdictions may differ from those in your country. By using the Application, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred internationally in connection with the provision of the Application.

Respondent Data

When you collect data from research participants through the Application, you are responsible for all obligations you owe to those participants, including applicable notice, consent, and data handling requirements. The Company does not have a direct relationship with your research participants. You are responsible for determining whether your collection, use, and storage of respondent data through the Application is lawful and consistent with any applicable ethical, institutional, or contractual requirements.

Your Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights concerning your personal data, including:

  • Accessing your personal information
  • Correcting inaccurate data
  • Requesting deletion of your data
  • Restricting or objecting to certain processing activities
  • Data portability
  • Withdrawing consent where processing is based on consent

Data Processing Addendum

For users conducting research involving human subjects data, personal data, or other sensitive data subject to heightened legal or institutional requirements, we may make available a Data Processing Addendum ("DPA") governing the handling of such data in connection with the Application. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

Children's Privacy

The Application is intended for users who are at least 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 except as permitted under our Terms of Use in connection with authorized research involving minors. Third-Party Links and Services
